Hansberry Garden and Nature Center (HGNC) members and supporters gathered on June 4, 2017 to build HGNC’s first greenhouse. The greenhouse is a result of the careful planning of HGNC’s Land Use Master Plan (LUMP) Committee. The LUMP Committee created a three phase plan for the use of HGNC’s land. The greenhouse is a part of our second phase in transforming our garden in order to better fit the needs of our members and neighbors.
Much thanks to the LUMP committee and LUMP co-chairs Dennis Barnebey and Kathy Miller for bringing a long dreamed opportunity to fruition. The greenhouse will be used to grow vegetables for HGNC’s annual Plant Sale, dramatically reducing the amount of money HGNC has to outlay for plants to re-sell. This will make our Plant Sale even more profitable which will allow us to carry our mission even further.
