Hansberry Garden is participating in the Seed Money Challenge, a 30-day fundraising challenge that runs from Nov. 15 – Dec. 15, and we could really use your help! In addition to the money we raise through our appeals, we have the chance to win a challenge grant of up to $1,000 based on how much we raise during the challenge period. There are extra challenge grants for gardens who raise the most money in the first 24 hours and the first week, so we hope you’ll consider a gift today.
Our Seed Money fundraising page, which will begin accepting donations at noon on Friday, Nov. 15, is at https://donate.seedmoney.org/11033/hansberry-community-garden.
Our project was inspired by our friends at Weavers Way Farm who often give us some of their leftover plant starts — especially greens — after they’ve planted out their crops. Their starts are of very high quality and we get beautiful greens from them, but there are usually many more than we can use in our beds at Hansberry Garden, so we want to pass them on to our neighbors who can grow them at home.
Some of our neighbors are well equipped to grow greens at home, but others might be lacking soil or containers for them, so that’s what we want to buy with money from this project. If we win a challenge grant or otherwise get more money than we’ve budgeted for this project, don’t worry — we always have more projects in mind! We need money for everyday operating expenses, and we also hope to resume a robust schedule of educational and cultural programming next year, so if you give, your money will be put to good use.
