This evergreen fern, native to North America, is also know as marginal wood fern, shield fern and Eastern wood fern. Like most ferns, it prefers shade and moisture, but it is relatively drought-tolerant once established. Plant in neutral to slightly acidic soil. In the wild, it favors rocky slopes.
