Hansberry Garden & Nature Center, a fertile green space at the corner of Wayne Ave. and Hansberry Street in Southwest Germantown, Philadelphia, needs members to tend and harvest its plants! If you’re interested in becoming part of the friendly community that keeps the garden going and reaps its many rewards, please join us at our Spring Gathering on March 9, 2019, to learn about membership in the garden.
- EVENT: Hansberry Garden & Nature Center Spring Gathering
- WHEN: March 9, 2019, 10 a.m. – noon
- WHERE: New Hope Temple Baptist Church Parish Hall (at the corner of Pulaski Ave. and Manheim St. Parish Hall entrance is at 5020 Pulaski Ave. through the archway and to the left)
The Hansberry Garden & Nature Center operates an organic garden at the corner of Wayne and Hansberry Avenues. HGNC also sponsors a number of community activities including the Kelly Green Project, a partnership with the nearby John B. Kelly School; regular donations of produce to the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s City Harvest Program; and programming such as workshops, artistic events, and social gatherings, both for garden members and for the general public. Hansberry Garden is now the site of a small amphitheater that will host musical and educational events in 2019, using solar power to fuel a sound system.
Those who are interested in joining the garden are invited to gather with returning members to learn about the benefits of membership in a thriving community garden and discuss plans for the upcoming growing season, including the introduction of a new outdoor amphitheater and a solar-powered electric system. Light refreshments will be offered.
Membership in Hansberry Garden and Nature Center offers much more than farming an eight-by-four-foot plot of fertile land. HGNC is a beautiful, welcoming environment for forging real connections with your Germantown neighbors. Attend our Spring Gathering to learn more about how HGNC members share expertise, labor, and good times — as well as more tangible items like seeds, tools, and produce. We hope to see you there!
