On Saturday, Aug. 26, at 5 p.m., Weavers Way Catering Supervisor Asia Simmons will demonstrate her technique for making a classic seasonal dish at Hansberry Garden. With locally grown produce, she’ll whip up gazpacho, a Spanish summertime favorite that doesn’t require the cook to light a stove or an oven in the August heat. The workshop is free to all (although donations will be accepted!).
Asia Simmons, a Philadelphia native, has worked in the restaurant and catering industry for over 15 years in some of the most ambitious kitchens and restaurants in and around Philadelphia. Asia’s goal is to pass down the practices of farming and cooking to her community, family and loved ones. She says knowing where your food comes from and how to cook it is a vital tool and a rewarding experience.
