Host Margel Overton continues a family tradition of music. Born on a Monday in 1985 in Haiti, Margel began classical piano lessons at the ripe age of six. He steadily showed growth, winning scholarships throughout his teens to several credited institutions, such as the Settlement School of Music, Princeton University, Temple University, and the Nelly Berman School of Music. At the age of 12 he won first place in the New Jersey Marion Anderson Music Guild Competition and continued to do so for three consecutive years. In 2004, he was awarded the Presidential Scholarship from The University of the Arts; in December 2008 he graduated with his BA in Jazz Piano Performance. Margel Overton is a living culmination of precise dedication to one’s craft, currently working as a producer, vocalist and teaching artist under the name, ‘theSophant’.
