Flowers, vegetables, and herbs, including a rich trove of native species, will be offered at Hansberry Garden and Nature Center’s annual plant sale on Saturday, May 12, 2018 — the day before Mothers’ Day.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., community-garden volunteers will help shoppers find annuals, perennials, cut flowers, and tasty home-baked delights at 5150 Wayne Ave. (at the corner of Wayne and Hansberry).
Proceeds of the sale benefit the Hansberry Garden and Nature Center, a resource for environmental and food education in Southwest Germantown.
The Hansberry Garden and Nature Center operates a community garden at the corner of Wayne and Hansberry Avenues. HGNC also sponsors a number of community activities including the Kelly Green Project, a partnership with the nearby John B. Kelly School; a Farm Stand that offers produce to the community at low or no cost during the growing season; regular donations of produce to the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s City Harvest Program; and programming such as workshops and social gatherings, both for garden members and for the general public.
